This survey supplement seeks to gain additional insights into volunteerism and philanthropy in Singapore in a bid to encourage the growth of a caring and engaged community.

Key findings

Volunteerism 

  1. The most important reason that would encourage volunteering among both volunteers and non-volunteers was “on my own initiative”, at 42% and 41% respectively.         

Philanthropy

  1. Donors with lower income donated more as a proportion of their income compared to the higher income earners;
  2. The most important reason to donate was compassion;
  3. The top-most motivating factor for donating to specific organisations was “to help a cause you personally believe in”.
