Volunteer On Valentine’s Day 2022

Ahhh, Valentine’s Day.

A time of year that means different things to different people.

For some, it’s a time for romance, for chocolates and flowers, heartfelt cards, romantic experiences like couple spas, dinner by moonlight, walks on the beach, a movie night at home.

And for others, it’s a time to stay home – just to avoid the lovey-dovey music and the couple-ness out there!

Ok, so we aren’t taking sides here – after all, different strokes for different folks! But the one thing we think everyone can agree on is that Valentine’s Day means LOVE.

Why not take inspiration from that meaning and celebrate the essence of Valentine’s Day? This VDay, share the love and volunteer!

We’ve got some ideas to start you off:

Be an Activity Facilitator for Children

Glyph

If you and your beloved enjoy sports or arts or being active, this might be exactly what you’re looking for!

Glyph Community Limited conducts activities in these areas for children and teens every weekend and are looking for volunteers to help facilitate them and engage with the young charges. This is great for people of all ages and volunteering backgrounds – in fact, no experience is needed, just a healthy sense of fun and energy.

Fundraise for the Autism Association

Autism 1

Do you or your loved one want to give back but also prefer something you can do from home?

The Autism Association is looking for Volunteer Fundraisers to help them raise funds to support their work and the services they provide, through fundraising campaigns and projects that you initiate and create.

This is a volunteering opportunity for people who are gung ho, proactive, creative, and good at planning and coordination. If this is you, the Autism Association is waiting to hear from you!

Nurture a Garden at Handicaps Welfare Association

Gardening

If you or your loved one like more hands on work and don’t mind getting your hands dirty, Handicaps Welfare Association (HWA) are looking for some gardening support for their therapeutic Garden of Hope at their premises.

Help ensure that clients have a calm space to enjoy, by tending to the garden once a week, helping with watering and nourishing the plants and flowers, removing weeds and ensuring its general upkeep.

While some gardening experience would help, this is something even beginners can enjoy.

Be a Food Distribution Volunteer

Social Health Growth 1

Another great option for hands on volunteering is being a Food Rations volunteer with Social Health Growth Limited. The organisation provides monthly food rations to needy communities across Singapore and needs volunteers to help with admin, some heavy lifting, and the distribution of the rations to households.

You don’t need any experience – just the heart and kindness.

Provide Support For a Soup Kitchen

Temp 674x505 2

In the month of February, Krsna’s Free Meals is looking for volunteers to help with the preparation of food for their soup kitchen for migrant workers. You can help in the kitchen, peeling and cutting vegetables, serving the meals and with clean up afterwards.

This is a good way for you and your beloved to enjoy time together while helping serve the needy. Once more no experience is needed, just some dedication and the will to help!

Take Seniors to Their Medical Appointments

4S

Have a car? Fancy a bit of a road trip, while helping people in need? Then why not be a volunteer transporter with Sathya Sai Social Services?

Volunteer transporters provide an essential service by bringing less mobile seniors to and from their medical appointments safely, and being a comforting presence through an often stressful experience.

If you’re a safe driver, have a car, have some flexibility in your timings and are available over a few months, then Sathya Sai Social Services could do with your help.

Be a Trishaw Pilot Ferrying Seniors

Cycling

Cycling Without Age Singapore has a fun opportunity for people who like to be outdoors, explore Singapore’s parks and would like to contribute to the community while doing so. They’re looking for volunteers who can bring senior citizens out for a trishaw ride around their communities, to give them a bit of fresh air and a friendly chat.

This is perfect for people who are friendly and enjoy the feel of wind in your hair!

Whether you spend the day with your beloved, your friend, family or in your own company, this Valentine’s Day, share the love! Check out more volunteering opportunities on Giving.sg.
