The third instalment of Giving Week organised by NVPC rallies local influencers and corporates to be part of The Great Giveaway, a nationwide campaign aimed at spreading kindness and being multipliers of good.

Singapore, November 2017 – Giving Week, the national giving movement catalysed by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), returns for its third edition this year with The Great Giveaway, from 28 November to 5 December. In support of SG Cares, this year’s campaign will rally local influencers and corporates to be part of a nationwide giveaway that invites Singaporeans to do their part in building a City of Good.

Explaining this year’s theme, Ms Melissa Kwee, Chief Executive Officer of NVPC says, “The Great Giveaway is much more than just about winning prizes – it’s a movement meant to encourage Singaporeans to kickstart their giving journey through fun and simple giving activities and to inspire and multiply the spirit of giving in Singaporeans.”

#THEGREATGIVEAWAY: SMALL CHANGES, BIG DIFFERENCES

Giving Week 2017 invites Singaporeans to be part of The Great Giveaway, where local celebrities will do their part to encourage Singaporeans to give back. The personalities will be raising funds for charities of their choice by starting campaigns on NVPC’s integrated online portal Giving.sg. Members of the public who donate to these campaigns will stand a chance to win unique experiences or prizes from their favourite personalities.

Among these personalities is entertainer Kumar, who will be raising funds for Beyond Social Services, a charity which helps children and youths break out of the poverty cycle. He will be giving away 50 VIP passes to his 50th birthday show titled “Kumar 50”, to be held at Capitol Theatre. The top five donors will also be given backstage passes. Another celebrity who is part of the campaign is MTV Asia VJ and Power 98 DJ Hanli Hoefer, who will be supporting the Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter. A lucky donor will stand a chance to get a Gold Class movie date with her, The Body Shop products worth $200, and MTV merchandise.

Every $10 donation to these campaigns entitles 10 chances in the draw. Other giveaways include an extended Ferrari test drive, plus a limited edition 70th anniversary gift box courtesy of Ital Auto, which supports Viva Foundation for children with cancer.

GIVING WEEK: AT A GLANCE

Giving Week is an extension of the popular Giving Tuesday in the United States that marks the start of the charitable season. Singapore was the first and only country in Asia to organise Giving Tuesday back in 2013. In 2015, NVPC decided to extend a day of giving into a week, with Giving Week starting on Giving Tuesday and ending on International Volunteer’s Day annually.

Giving Week 2016 saw enthusiastic participation from more than 230 companies, 31 festival partners and 11 influencers, including Anita Kapoor, Sezairi Sezali and Paul Foster. The collective effort helped spread the Giving message to more than 1 million individuals and raised a total of S$7.62 million.

For 2017, NVPC is anticipating an even livelier Giving Week with enthusiastic support from businesses and non-profit organisations. Ms Kwee adds, “Through the diverse line-up of activities, we hope to encourage Singaporeans to do their part, big or small, in making Singapore a more compassionate and caring nation.”

CORPORATES DOING THEIR PART

NVPC believes in engaging corporate partners to create an array of novel satellite festivities and events aimed at spreading the giving message.

This year, some of the corporates include:

  • Unlisted Collection: Unlisted Collected, the company behind award-winning F&B outlets such as Pollen, Burnt Ends and Meat Smith, will be supporting SG Enable with $1 donated from each beverage ordered at all their outlets.
  • Fairprice Online: Fairprice Online is collaborating with the Boys’ Brigade for their Share-a-Gift campaign, which aims to reach out to more than 42,000 beneficiaries. Members of the public can pledge donations of food items including rice, instant noodles, beverages, biscuits, cooking oil and condiments at 12 selected NTUC FairPrice stores and FairPrice Online.
  • RCMA Group with Millennia Walk: They are co-organising a Boccia tournament between Indonesia and Singapore para-athletes to raise awareness for persons with disabilities. A blood donation drive will be held in conjunction with the event.
  • Singapore Post: Singapore Post will be offering their parcel delivery POP stations nationwide as drop-off points for the public and corporates to donate toys and gifts to beneficiaries at Make-A-Wish Foundation.
  • SportsHub: The 7th edition of Community Play Day, a quarterly carnival which aims to bring the community closer through sports and lifestyle activities, will be held in conjunction with Giving Week. Participants are encouraged to donate to a charity at Community Play Day. Members of the public attending SportsHub’s FIT sessions leading up to Community Play Day will also be encouraged to donate to a charity.
  • Eatigo: For every reservation made with the code GIVING between 1st to 31st Dec, Eatigo will donate $2 to Willing Hearts
  • MoBike: In support of Singapore Red Cross, MoBike will be giving credits to all blood donors at all blood banks islandwide during Giving Week.

GIVING WEEK FESTIVAL: GIVING BACK TOGETHER

Giving Week is also an opportunity for families to give back together and for companies to engage their staff by bonding through giving activities. Through the list of festival activities taking place during Giving Week, NVPC aims to increase awareness, educate and engage individuals and corporates in a nationwide effort towards charitable giving and volunteerism.
