“Big Data with a Big Heart” -Tableau Foundation partners NVPC to drive social impact using data

A global market leader in data analytics, Tableau Foundation partners NVPC to drive social impact with a 3-year visual analytics grant which is the first in Singapore to be awarded by Tableau.

SINGAPORE, 22 June 2017 – Change makers around the globe are discovering that data is a powerful ally in their efforts to create a better world. Tableau Software (NYSE: DATA), working through Tableau Foundation, today announced that it has awarded its first grant in Singapore to the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC).

The grant is valued at over USD81, 000 (approximately SGD112, 153) and consists of Tableau licenses and training services. Both NVPC and Tableau believe that data can have enormous value to non-profit organisations, enabling them to increase transparency and accountability, expand their relationships with funders, discover new trends in their programmes, and tell more powerful stories about their communities.

Tableau is a global visual analytics leader that helps people to see and understand data. NVPC’s Research and Giving.sg teams are now using Tableau to connect and visualize data quickly, combine multiple views of data, gain actionable insights and share secured information with key NVPC staff for data-driven decision making on the go. By tapping on Tableau, it has increased the ease and efficiency for NVPC’s Giving.sg team to perform targeted email marketing based on user profiles and behaviours. The good results led to a significant 56% increase in donation amounts on Giving.sg between April 2016 and April 2017.

Melissa Kwee, CEO of NVPC said: “We are happy that Tableau is a Company of Good member and partnering us to do good. At NVPC, we are committed to become a thought-leader in the giving space that leverages on data to drive and nurture Singapore’s giving culture. Our team, armed with Tableau seeks to cultivate a data-first environment, upgrade our skillsets, and enrich our storytelling capabilities to our stakeholders. Through walking the talk, NVPC hopes to inspire and reach out to other non-profit organisations in Singapore to harness the power of data and analytics in their organisations.” Tableau Software exemplifies a member of the Company of Good, a programme by NVPC that encourages companies to give in strategic, sustainable and impactful ways. Tableau Software, working through the Tableau Foundation, is helping to accelerate change by making free licenses of its powerful visual analytics software to small non-profits, NGOs, and charitable community-based organizations in 192 countries.

Tableau Asia Pacific Senior Vice President, JY Pook commented: “We are honoured to be able to play a part in NVPC’s journey towards promoting philanthropy and volunteerism in Singapore. At Tableau, we have seen first-hand how teams in various industries and of different sizes transform into effective and resourceful organisations with the help of data analytics. We know that people who give their time and resources to help the communities they know best are no different, and NVPC’s efforts to put data in the hands of those decision makers can have an equally powerful impact in helping to solve the world’s problems.”

In addition to this grant, Tableau Foundation also makes free licenses of its powerful visual analytics software to small non-profits, NGOs, and charitable community-based organizations across the Asia Pacific region. That program is paired with the Tableau Service Corps, a volunteer network of Tableau employees who are eager to help non-profits of any size explore and do good with their data.

Finally, following on this partnership with NVPC, Tableau Foundation is announcing its 2017 Community Grant cycle. Eligible non-profit organisations in Singapore may apply for the locally-focused cash and software grants at tableau.com/foundation/employee-and-community before 31 July 2017.
