8 Days of Giving

No more #FOMO: let’s celebrate #GivingTuesday! On 28 November, join people from Canada to Kazakhstan and kickstart 8 days of giving here in our Little Red Dot.

DAY 1: Tuesday, 28 Nov

Go online and get giving

Own time, own target

Thanks to the wonders of technology you can give back at any time. It’s as simple as starting a fundraising campaign for a charity of your choicetaking part in the Great Giveaway, or just sharing on Facebook to raise awareness of the movement. Every little bit counts!

DAY 2: Wednesday, 29 Nov

Liberty Art Jam

Any time between 12.30PM and 5.30PM, Artify Studios @ Jalan Besar, closed on Mondays

Processed with VSCO with s3 preset

Get over that mid-week hump by letting your creativity flow! An initiative by Artify Studio, Liberty Art Jam is a 2.5hour art jamming session that was created for the purpose of providing opportunities for people to paint in an inclusive environment.

They empower you with the freedom to decide how much to give, based on how much YOU value the session with them. This Giving Week, 10% of funds collected will go to Drawn by a Nurse – an initiative to gather nurses to paint for a good cause. Paintings will also be auctioned off at the end of the year and all proceeds raised will be donated to TOUCH Community Services, specifically TOUCH Home Care. Book your slot here.

DAY 3: Thursday, 30 Nov

Jump the queue with Eatigo

Own time, own target

Still can’t decide where to eat this weekend? Choose from over 2,000 restaurant partners across the region with Eatigo. Plus, for every reservation made with code “GIVING”, Eatigo will donate $2 to Willing Hearts, to help them in their efforts to prepare and distribute cooked meals to the less fortunate. A good reason to not have to queue for food? Count us in!

*Giveaway lasts from 28 November till 30 December 2017.

DAY 4: Friday, 1 December

Befriend Post-Discharged Families & Individuals

10AM -11.30AM @ Jalan Kukoh

New Hope Community Services is looking for volunteers to help engage residents who have been discharged from their transitional shelters. These residents were once from displaced families, who may otherwise have resorted to staying on the streets, parks, beaches etc. By befriending them, you can help ensure that these residents have a higher chance of being integrated back into society, and are not at risk of falling through the cracks again.

Volunteers need to be at least 25 years old, and if you’re feeling a little nervous, don’t worry! You’ll be taught basic engagement and conversational skills from New Hope’s social workers first.

Be a Child Minder for LCSS’ Christmas Extravaganza

11.30AM – 3PM @ Kallang

Kick-start the festive season with Life Community Services Society! For the first time ever, they’re organising a two-day Christmas Extravaganza chock-full of family-friendly activities and performances by their beneficiaries. Volunteers are needed to mind the younger beneficiaries, and spend a fun day out with them at the extravaganza!

Note: You will need to be at least 17 years old, to sign up as a volunteer.

DAY 5: Saturday, 2 Dec

Par-tea at Singapore’s first Silent Tea Bar

3PM – 5PM @ Asian Civilisations Museum

Hush is a global movement to bring the worlds of hearing and the deaf together, encouraging silence and awareness, with a cup of tea. In this Hush@Community series, join our everyday heroes (cleaners, migrant workers, social workers, differently-abled persons etc) to share space in silence and solidarity, guided by deaf facilitators.

What stories can be shared in silence? Find out by experiencing it for yourself!

Geylang Adventures – Little India

2PM – 5PM @ Little India

If you want something a little less zen, but equally eye-opening, how about an adventure to Little India? The mess and scorch marks from the Dec 2013 riots are gone, but they left indelible marks on Little India that are still visible today. Just like last year’s Geylang Adventures, you’ll be taken off the tourist trail to explore lesser known spaces, communities and conflicts only insiders see.

DAY 6: Sunday, 3 Dec

Loan a human, listen to an unheard voice

1PM – 5PM @ The Red Box

We all have stories worth telling. ETCH Empathy’s Human Library™ is a place where real people are on loan to readers, a place where difficult questions are expected, appreciated and answered. For Giving Week, ETCH Empathy and Youth Corps Singapore are co-presenting a session for the unheard voices in our society. All their books have different backgrounds and different stories to share. From Para-Athletes to Single Mum, they all have a story to share and their own stereotypes to break.

DAY 7: Monday, 4 Dec

DAY 7: Monday, 4 Dec

10AM – 5PM @ National Gallery

Big Heroes are bringing the gift of art to life! Be inspired by the great artworks at the National Gallery, and channel your creativity onto a canvas. You’ll be under the guidance of artists from non-profit, Very Special Arts, who will help you create your next masterpiece! Sign up for a slot here.

DAY 8: Tuesday, 5 Dec

Give the gift of song

Throughout December @ Yishun Community Hospital

Are you an aspiring singer or performer, and looking for a stage beyond your shower? Why not use your talent to bring some joy to the patients of Yishun Community Hospital? Their hospital is truly your oyster, and you can choose to be a roaming performer, set up stage in a common area and more!

Note: Sign ups close on 3 December, but you can choose to volunteer any time during the month of December.

Thank your Everyday Hero!

Own time, own target

We all have an everyday hero. Whether it’s your mum who made you breakfast, or the Bus Uncle/Auntie who got you safely home, don’t forget to say thank you this International Volunteer day! It’ll not only make their day, it’ll make your day too!
