Whilst the long-awaited June school holidays are finally here, your plans may have required change due to some activities being no longer feasible due to Phase 2 (Heightened Alert).

To ease the disappointment, we thought of some alternative stay-at-home ideas for you! This way, you and your kids may still have a fun and meaningful June school holidays at home.

Arts, Crafts And Cards For Good

Express yourself with arts and crafts by joining a workshop with your kids! In June, CraftPreneurs of SG (CSG) is organising various craft workshops open to kids aged 6 and above to make art together.

During this 1-hour online workshop, participants will learn how to make a heart-shaped box, a cupcake, Father’s Day crafts and more. At the same time, these workshops enable us to do good! 50% of CSG profits will be donated to charity.

Moreover, you and your kids can go the extra mile and give your arts and crafts to neighbours and healthcare workers to help encourage them during this period.

By the way, the workshops also serve as a platform to recruit volunteer facilitators at their future craft workshops. Sign up here.

Alternatively, how about making greeting cards?

Making greeting cards is a fun and heartwarming activity for all ages, from kids to adults. By taking part in the CraftForGood initiative by Be Kind SG, your creative touch can bring joy to seniors from Fei Yue Community Services (FYCS)!

By 11 June, CraftForGood hopes to create as many greeting cards as possible to reach out to seniors. Your cards will be packed into care packs for these seniors who mostly stay alone. A greeting card can go a long way in putting a smile on their faces.

Connect With Those Who Need It Most

Elderly buying groceries

For teenagers unsure of how to spend their holiday, why not suggest extending a helping hand to seniors?

AMKFSC Community Services hopes to find young individuals to help assist seniors in purchasing groceries with their Elderly Companion initiative. Volunteer to help get groceries on behalf of seniors with mobility difficulties.

For those preferring to stay at home, teenagers and adults alike can virtually volunteer to reach out to those who need our support. The Befriending and Buddying Programme by Sathya Sai Social Service aims to befriend and engage seniors via home visits or virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom. Reach out to elderly individuals from the comforts of your own home and help enhance their livelihood and well-being.

Bring Joy To Others With A Performance

Does your child play music? Music can help people improve one’s mood and mental health, calming anxiety and lifting one’s spirit. Playing music can be therapeutic and a great way to bring joy to others. Whether it be performing virtually for relatives overseas, or sharing your talent with friends you may not be able to meet during Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), the joy that music brings is undeniable.

You can even go a step further by sharing the joy of music beyond those near and dear to us.

Yishun Community Hospital is looking for individuals with musical talents (aged 17 and above) to help liven up the atmosphere during mealtimes by playing instruments such as the piano.

Volunteer Guitar Connection

On the other hand, Volunteer Guitar Connection (VGC) helps to bring joy to different social services and charities with live music and singing during their volunteer sessions, both physically and virtually. For those eager to volunteer with VGC but lack the knowledge, VGC offers beginner’s classes that teach you how to play guitar so that you can volunteer and share your newfound skills!

Take this opportunity to pick up a new skill with your children during their June school holidays, and spread the love thereafter.

Care Packages To Care For Others

During this time, low-income families, particularly those with young children, find it challenging to afford pricier necessities like milk and diapers. Project Hills’ Milk & Diapers Fund has been helping to ease some of these challenges faced by these families, ensuring that their little ones do not go without basic sustenance and nutrition in their crucial growing years. Project Hills believes that all children deserve proper care and nutrition. Your donation as a family to Milk & Diaper’s Fund can help create a big impact.

Another way your family can help is with Contribute SG. In collaboration with Hey, You Got Mail!, help support their efforts with surgical masks for their outreach initiatives. Take a trip down to one of their many contactless drop-off points with your family and donate new surgical or N95 masks and other sanitising items that you do not need. These items can make a huge difference in keeping the lives of other families or individuals in need safe.

We hope you are inspired by these ideas! Through these activities, you can further demonstrate the importance of caring for others with these fun and meaningful activities that make a world of impact towards our City of Good.
