When we are thinking of what to do for Valentine’s Day with our loved ones, thrill and excitement fills us. We want to feel special and take our significant others on a special journey too.

However, within us, there’s a capacity to go beyond ourselves and reach out to other individuals or groups in need of love.

As the saying goes, volunteers are love in motion.

And showing love to those around us, especially the under-privileged and disadvantaged, can spark joy and fulfillment in many more hearts during this season of love.

So, gather your partner, a friend or even family, and volunteer with a cause that resonates with you, this Valentine’s Day. Because a little love shown, goes a long way.

Here are 5 causes to get you started:

Be a Food Parcel Distributor

4S

A simple activity with no prior experience or special skills required.

Be part of this volunteer driven programme hosted by Sathya Sai Social Services doing monthly deliveries of food parcels to families in need. You and your partner will be involved in roles such as packing, sorting, redemption, and delivery of these food parcels.

Make some friends along the way as you get to know these families when you visit them. All you need to bring is a smile and plenty of friendly energy!

Get Creative with Infographics

HealthServe

Do you love design work, and perhaps, would like to engage your significant other for some do-good teamwork?

You can sign up to be an infographic design volunteer with HealthServe, a non-profit organisation invested in the needs of migrant workers through the provision of medical care, counselling, social assistance and other support services.

Your design skills are in need to help produce infographics useful to the work HealthServe does for the migrant worker community.

Let creativity flow through your labour of love for Valentine’s Day.

Volunteer at Relay For Life 2023

SCS

Relay for Life is a global movement with over 4 million participants annually and the Singapore edition, organised by the Singapore Cancer Society, will take place on 4 and 5 March 2023 at the National Stadium.

Volunteers are needed in a variety of roles such as ushers, marshalls, registration and information counters, logistics, booth assistants and many more.

Make it a date with Relay for Life 2023 to celebrate the lives of those who survived cancer, remember loved ones lost, and let the cancer community in Singapore know that no one fights cancer alone.

Craft Works of Art With Seniors

socialgift

We’ve all heard of seniors who reside alone in their rental flats. Your mission? To engage them, bring them out of their shell and help them rediscover their confidence while creating handicraft artworks!

This enriching activity will allow these seniors to develop their craft skills, relieve stress and find purpose and strength in what they are doing.

No specific skills needed and first-timers, groups or even families are welcome!

Befriend Mothers & Deliver Infant Supplies

alife3 1

The Mothers’ Assistance Programme was set up by aLife Ltd in 2020 with a goal to alleviate the financial challenges faced by low-income families.

Helping to ensure that babies aren’t missing out on the essential nutrients needed for their development, volunteers make regular visits to these families with deliveries of infant supplies like milk and diapers.

Spend a meaningful day with your loved one by befriending these families and help monitor the healthy growth and well-being of the babies.
